Introduction
gas turbine exhaust silencers

Acoustical Exhaust SystemATCO Structures & Logistics Ltd.(ASL) is one of the world leaders in industrial noise control.  Since its inception in 1977 under the Higgott-Kane name, ASL has specialized in turbine inlet and exhaust silencers, by-pass diverters and stacks, expansion joints, diffusers, simple cycle catalyst systems, acoustical cabins and enclosures, and related systems and equipment, such as filterhouses and proprietary anti-icing systems.

ASL is well known for the quality of its custom-designed acoustical solutions, and it became a leading provider to companies in North America, eventually expanding worldwide.  Today ASL products can be found at energy facilities everywhere, from Canada to Indonesia and from Australia to France.

Nearly 30 years and thousands of units after its beginnings in Toronto, Canada, ASL counts amongst its satisfied OEM clients firms such as Siemens, General Electric, Rolls Royce, Mitsubishi, Solar Turbines, Dresser-Rand and others.  Among its EPC clients are Black & Veatch, Burns & McDonnell, Sega, Spectrum, Bibb, SNC and many  other engineering and construction firms.  Among the end-users purchasing various custom-designed noise control equipment directly from ASL are numerous utilities and gas transportation companies, including TransCanada PipeLines, Aquila, LG&E, Nova Scotia Power and other utilities and power producers.

ASL has successfully supplied turbine silencing systems for units as small as 1.5 MW and as large as 256 MW.  ASL is leading the industry in acoustical engineering expertise in silenced exhaust systems for the largest gas or steam turbines placed under the most stringent noise targets.

The company’s advanced design capabilities and on-going Research & Development Program are the cornerstones of its business model.  An acoustical, mechanical and structural analysis utilizes the most up-to-date software and is performed by a team of experienced engineers on premises.  Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) are also in-house.  Customized and calibrated third party software (live CADNA-A) is augmented by internal proprietary software NOISECALC and a “state-of-the-art” acoustical data acquisition system.

ASL's noise silencing products are utilized with equal success in land and off-shore platform applications, on projects both retrofit and new, at energy facilities in simple or combined cycle.

All equipment, be it a silenced stack, an exhaust diffuser, an inlet air duct silencer and or a drop-over acoustical enclosure, are manufactured according to ASL designs and procedures, under ASL Quality Assurance at pre-qualified manufacturing facilities worldwide.

The company’s procedures are certified under ISO 9001-2000 quality standard and ensure consistency of product quality and performance.  Risk Management processes are part of ATCO’s corporate mandate, and give ASL clients further assurance of business continuity and project success.  Adherence to a Health & Safety Manual and on-going training is an essential part of our operations on congested industrial sites and in remote locations.

ASL manufacturing and project management capabilities and dedicated Quality Assurance are augmented by the construction management capabilities of ATCO, allowing for seamless execution of the largest “turn-key” design, supply and install of acoustical projects worldwide.  Combined expertise of ASL's Environmental Systems and Noise Management brings unique benefits to the Operations and Maintenance of power plants and oil & gas facilities.  Starting with acoustical site survey, followed by design of an appropriate retrofit package for the gas path noise and other industrial noise sources on site, balanced for costs and efficiency based on the experience of thousands of successful noise abatement projects and proprietary acoustical designs of both companies, supported by in-house acoustical, structural and mechanical engineering teams, and offering this package to clients “turn-key” supplied and installed, with lump-sum price, guaranteed performance and a firm schedule is an offering unique in the industrial noise control field.

Exceeding expectations was always a trademark of ASL, which guaranteed a perfect fit of business philosophies.  ASL offers its international clients the same famous quality and expertise, backed by expanded scope, financial strength and experience of the ATCO Group of Companies.
